Subject:Raveendra Sangeethathinu VIDA
Time:11:46 am.
I was a bit shocked to find out that famous Malayalam Music Director had passed away. I think I liked most of his songs...Especially his classical songs.

It was only few days back Pukazhendi had passed away.

Subject:Three Movies
Time:9:23 am.
We saw three movies during the last weekend. All of them were mallu movies.

Ente Veedu Apponteyum: Gayatri had seen this movie before and I was watching it for the first time. Master Kalidasan has done a good job and he deserves National Award. Sibi Malayil made this a good movie and I liked the theme he selected for the movie. Every actor did his/her bit well in this movie. Okay songs :-)

Overall, this is a movie worth watching.

Mambazhakalam: We saw this movie in Sangeet theatre and to be frank, we went with some expectations. Director Joshi disappoints us. Even more disappointing is the story and the performance of Mohanlal. Shobhana has nothing much to do. Songs are okay !

Overall, an absolute crap movie.

Vismayathumpathu:Gayatri had not seen this movie before. Here is the review.

A Movie worth watching.

Subject:Manasinakkare
Time:3:21 pm.
Mood: pleased.
It was during last December I watched Sathyan Anthikkad's Manasinakkare. Yesterday we saw it again (not fully).

It was a very pleasing experience for us to watch it again - excellent acting by everyone - especially Sheela, great location, good songs and good direction. The theme may not be new. But the above factors that I mentioned makes this movie a really good one and it would be a pleasing experience for you to watch it again.

Subject:Kazcha
Time:10:36 am.
Mood: happy.
Last weekend we saw the Malayalam Movie - Kazhcha at Manoranjan Theatre.

Manoranjan Theatre is slightly far from Indira Nagar (the place where we stay). Also I had never been to this theatre before. Though we lost our way near the TV tower, we reached there on time. There was a big queue eventhough the movie had completed 3 weeks in Bangalore.

Some of the theatres here in Bangalore are very disappointing and I found that Manoranjan ranks the worst among them. Also it would be interesting to note that one ticket costs you just Rs 22. There is no balcony and you would be really surprised to see the screen (You may wonder whether you are living in first half of 20th century) and the plastic chairs placed on the iron rods. It is difficult for people to see the full screen because of the blocking heads of the people sitting in their front row. This may be the only theatre where front seaters have an advantage over the back seaters :) Even Kasargod Roopesh was a better theatre :-)

Having taken such pains to reach the theatre and also to tolerate the above described theatre, I was expecting to watch a very good movie. There was a good story in the movie though it was too much centric to Pavan, the little boy who suffered the worst during the Gujarat earth quake. He has lost his parents and little sister (They are missing and we do not know whether they will come back or not!). Director Blessy has done a fantastic job in the execution of this movie. He is successful in waking up our soft feelings and to some extent makes us realise that life is not that easy for many people. Another good thing about this movie is the place where it is shot. It was really heartening to see the Kuttandan places, the backwaters, the simple life of villagers and what not. Even the Thechi in front of Madhavan's (Mammooty's) house attracted me.

On the other hand, this movie gives me an impression that there is nothing much given for other actors to perform. For example, such a talented actor like Manoj K Jayan makes no impact in this movie. It is not because of his fault, but because of director. Same goes with Innocent and others. Mammotty performs normally and there is nothing so great about his performance in this movie. He had much better performances in the past. If I have to give credit to someone, I would give it to boy who played the role of Pavan, the girl who acted as Mammotty's daughter and also the person who acted as Mammotty's father. Songs are good and I liked them.

In my opinion, a movie should definitely end with a good message. This movie does not have a good ending. Especially the scene where Gujarat office throws Mammotty's address in the waste basket- was discouraging.

Overall, this is a movie worth watching and I am sure that there are many elements that we will like.

Subject:Vellinakshatram
Time:3:53 pm.
Yesterday we saw the Malayalam movie - Vellinakshatram. This is close to a junk movie and you may think why Vinayan makes such nonsense movies. Songs are okay for a typical ghost movie where Salim Kumar does his Komali vesham again.

My Recommendation: Do not watch this !

Subject:Question about Balarama Varma
Time:5:05 pm.
There are mentions that Balarama Varma, who ruled the kingdom of Travancore from 1798 to 1810, was only 16 years old when he became the king in 1798. There are also mentions that he passed away in 1810. However, I guess he was not so efficient or popular like his predecessors - Marthanda Varma and Rama Varma (Dharma Raja). Interestingly, events related to Velu Thampi happened during his time.

Balarama Varma passed away at such a young age (28 years!). Was it a natural death or was he killed ?

It was during his time, Raja Kesavadasan was removed from the post of Divan.  Also Kesavadasan's family assets were confiscated. Anybody knows what happened to Kesavadasan after that ?

I have not read Travancore Manual. Hence these doubts :-(

Subject:Vaastu Shastra
Time:10:04 am.
Yesterday we saw the movie Vaastu Shastra. Seriously speaking, this is a junk movie !

I have no clue on what the experts say about this movie ! But I will tell you what I felt about this movie ! There is nothing to tell about story because there is no story (neither for the human beings nor for the ghosts) in the movie. You have to be really patient to pass the first 30 minutes of the movie because this part hardly has any conversations..All that our dear director is trying to do is to scare us..And does anybody get any feeling ? I do not think so ! In this aspect Malayalam movie Aparichitan is a much better work with its superior camera work and for that matter in all other aspects also. None of the actors including (Satya fame) Chakravarthy were impressive.

Latter half goes in a relatively fast manner and the pace of the movie reaches its peak during last 10-15 minutes. Also it was only after watching the second half of the movie, I had a better feeling about this movie.

My recommendation: Do not watch this movie !

I felt that the some of the ideas were taken from the English movie Evil Dead 1. But what happened finally ? Saurabh Narang, the director, ended up producing a junk movie like this !

Subject:Last Weekend
Time:9:47 am.
It was nice to see Rajeev after a gap. He visited us during the weekend and we spent some quality time with him. I also got a call from Hari who is in England right now. Both these events reminded me of the wonderful days that we had at IIT Madras. Rajeev and Hari were very prominent members of our mallu group there.

Our trips to Saravanabhavan, T-Nagar, Madras.

Subject:Work code for IT companies
Time:2:15 pm.
This article appeared in The Hindu. I did not notice that. Thanks a lot to Pavan who forwarded this link to me.

Link : http://www.hindu.com/op/2004/11/02/stories/2004110200091600.htm

From the article:

Nowadays, one stumbles upon articles cautioning about the health hazards — both mental and physical — an IT professional faces by continuously sitting before the computer and looking at its screen. To mention the most perilous of them:

1. IT employees are prone to nervous breakdown, tremor in the hand and an irritable nature, the worst of the maladies being the possibility of becoming demented due to the damage caused to brain cells.

2. Eyesight is impaired, and even blindness is not ruled out in the case of those already having defective vision.

3. Divorces are on the increase among couples if either or both are IT professionals, according to a family court advocate.

........................

What is the purpose of leading a married life if one does not have time to spend with children who may be asleep both at the time of departure and arrival — let alone attending on them?

.........................

Coming to the incidence of divorce among IT professionals, it is the absence of either or both the partners from home that causes quarrels, ego clashes, either due to the bitterness in the wife whose workload is more than that of the husband or the displeasure of the husband whose wife is away from home for long hours. (Most men want to have the cake and eat it too!) The irritable nature — the outcome of nervous breakdown which develops in IT professionals due to unhealthy working conditions — causes divorces.

.........................

The IT professionals should also remember that their craze for huge sums of money and striving hard to earn them while young would deprive them of a happy married life and cause them untold suffering, both physical and mental, in later years.

Subject:CONTROL YOUR TRIGLYCERIDES
Time:10:02 am.
Triglyceride is the form in which fat is stored in the body. When there is excess glucose in the blood, insulin converts it into triglyceride, which is then stored in the fat cells. Family history of heart disease, severe stress, obesity, sedentary lifestyle, smoking, improper diet etc. have a role to play in raising triglyceride levels. The cause for concern is high levels of triglycerides are linked with increased risk of heart disease. You can prevent high triglyceride levels by adopting proper eating habits and by exercising regularly.

Subject:Google in Malayalam Script
Time:11:23 am.
Please see http://www.google.com/intl/ml/

Malayalam you see here looks dirty as New Script (Puthiya Lipi) is used instead of Old Script (Pazhaya Lipi).

I have a strong feeling not to use such a page like this ! I faced difficulty in reading all the Malayalam words except Directory.

Subject:Magic of Sargam.
Time:9:13 am.
Today morning we were listening to the songs of the Malayalam movie Sargam. I like all the songs in that movie - especially the one Ragasudharasara Panamoe. The song and composition is of the highest standard. And when such a song comes out in the form of Yesudas's voice (KS Chitra also) , what a feast it is :-)

This song composed by Thyagaraja in Andholika Ragam, Aadi Thalam brings me a lot of happiness and calmness.

Here is the link for the song in the MusicIndia website: http://musicindiaonline.com/l/20/s/movie_name.3815/

Sargam was a fantastic movie marked by the great direction of Hariharan, meaningful lyrics by Yousuf Ali Kechery, great music of Bombay Ravi and some fundu acting by Manoj K Jayan, Vineeth, Nedumudi Venu and others.

Subject:Finished my driving lessons !
Time:9:08 am.
I took my two wheeler driving license way back in 1994 beginning and LMV driving license in 1996 March.

I had one Yamaha RX 100 motorbike with me and I used it from 1993 to 2001. However, my LMV driving skills were never tested because I never drove a four wheeler after passing the driving license test. Recently I felt like refreshing those skills and I went and joined a driving school near my house. Initially I enrolled for 5 classes. Interestingly, I was taught by 4 different teachers and each one had his own styles...Well, I have no complaints because in the first class itself I could do most of the things and after every class my confidence was increasing. After the third class, I decided that I need only 4 classes instead of 5.

I know that I did not face the heavy traffic of Bangalore in these four classes. I will know the real difficulty of driving when I go through that phase.
